About 16 months ago, the Zero Net Energy Working Group held a Symposium in Berkeley. Many of the key players in the Bay Area energy efficiency community were there. It was a tremendous success.
Following the Symposium, a small group of inspired, local community energy efficiency and building experts, many national experts, convened to move ZNE forward in Berkeley.
During the past year we created an incentive based plan which, if adopted by Berkeley, would be one of the most progressive, green and responsible sourcing plans in the United States.
The plan includes: ZNE, the energy efficiency of the building once built; embodied energy, in the materials and building processes; and, toxics, limiting exposure to people producing, installing, living/working and maintaining the buildings.
We are presenting the proposal for review by members of professional green and sustainable building networks for input. At this event we are presenting the proposal to the local community for feedback and support before introducing the plan to the Berkeley City Council.
