October has been a busy month for energy legislation!
Along with SB 350 and AB 802, Assembly Bill 693 has been signed into law, creating the new Multifamily Affordable Housing Solar Roofs Program. AB 693 requires that funding be put aside for the implementation of solar roofs on qualified multifamily buildings, starting in 2017, with the goal of at least 300 megawatts (MW) to be installed by 2030. The electricity generated is to be used primarily to offset usage by low-income tenants, with a credit shown on their utility bill. Further review by the Center for Sustainable Energy is available here. The full text of AB 693 is available here.
This Bill builds on existing legislation directing solar funds to low-income housing. Learn more here.
