Through a Department of Energy “SunShot” grant, the City and County of San Francisco has developed a publicly available tool for sizing and rating PV solar and battery storage to provide extended back-up power. This first-of-its-kind tool enables building and energy managers, architects, sustainability and energy professionals to size solar PV and battery storage systems to provide power for extended periods during large-scale power outages.
SolarResilient™ (SolarResilient.org) allows building owners and city departments to develop equipment sizing before embarking on more detailed studies. The SolarResilient™ tool can be used on building portfolios so that optimum scenarios can be incorporated into a city or county’s energy resilience strategy.
This tool was developed with the support of U.S. Department of Energy and is available for public use in any U.S. locations.
