Demonstration of San Francisco’s Solar + Storage Sizing Tool

Through a Department of Energy “SunShot” grant, the City and County of San Francisco has developed a publicly available tool for sizing and rating PV solar and battery storage to provide extended back-up power. This first-of-its-kind tool enables building and energy managers, architects, sustainability and energy professionals to size solar PV and battery storage systems to provide power for extended periods during large-scale power outages.

SolarResilient™ ( allows building owners and city departments to develop equipment sizing before embarking on more detailed studies. The SolarResilient™ tool can be used on building portfolios so that optimum scenarios can be incorporated into a city or county’s energy resilience strategy.

This tool was developed with the support of U.S. Department of Energy and is available for public use in any U.S. locations.

Two webinars have been scheduled to demonstrate the tool:

Local Government Sustainable Energy Coalition (LGSEC) (Register Here) June 26, 2017  @  2-3PM PDT

The California Energy Storage Alliance (CESA) (Register Here) July 7, 2017 @ 1-2PM PDT
