Department Director, Sustainability Department – City of San Diego

Under the direction of the Deputy Chief Operating Officer for Smart & Sustainable Communities, the Director of the Sustainability Department is responsible for oversight of the day-to-day operations of the department. The Director of the Sustainability Department will provide strong visionary and collaborative leadership with a hands-on proactive approach to public sector sustainably services and programs. The Director will be the direct point of accountability for effective operations of the City’s day-to-day sustainability programs including: directing, managing, supervising, participating, and coordinating the activities and operations relating to the work of staff, and stakeholders responsible for implementation, monitoring, and measurement of the City’s comprehensive Climate Action Plan. The Director will also oversee implementation of the City Municipal Energy Strategy. In this capacity, the Director is responsible for oversight of various City initiatives designed to reduce energy usage at City facilities. The Director will oversee the creation of a new energy metering program to track energy use for individual City buildings and determine the best opportunities for energy reduction projects.
