Purpose:
The Megawatt Charging System 2025 (MCS) program is a California Energy Commission–funded initiative administered by CALSTART to support the large-scale deployment of ultra-high-power charging for medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicles. It focuses on installing charging systems capable of delivering up to roughly one megawatt of direct current to trucks, buses, and other commercial vehicles—enough to recharge very large battery packs in under an hour. The goal is to enable fast, reliable, and interoperable charging that can meet the needs of long-haul and high-duty-cycle fleets, reduce downtime, and advance California’s transition to zero-emission freight and logistics operations.
