Job Announcement: Energy Markets Analyst – Sonoma Clean Power

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Business, Economics, Engineering Science, Mathematics, or a related field, plus 3 years of experience in the job offered or a related position.

DESCRIPTION: Conduct market and portfolio modeling and analysis of utility company’s power supply position to effectively monitor and manage exposure to adverse market changes. Collect, assemble, analyze and interpret economic data from manual and automated information systems and related programs. Track and validate complex California Independent System Operator (CAISO) multi-settlement invoices and prepare related reports to management. Document work flow. Provide economic analysis of systems to identify inefficiencies and design productivity systems to maximize the company’s effectiveness in services and operations. Provide economic expertise in creation and support of systems benchmarking for anticipated system implementations, enhancements or modifications by providing documented system specifications, evaluating vendor proposals, and recommending appropriate courses of action. Prepare economic reports, graphs and other material related to energy resources, and customer statistics. Provide technical economic support around the California Independent System Operator settlement process. Prepare and provide economic and econometric reporting to agencies such as the U.S. Energy Information Administration, California Public Utilities Commission, California Independent System Operator, and the California Energy Commission. Monitor customer trends, patterns, and issues. Use economic data to evaluate current trends and determine if existing policies or procedures should be modified to better serve customers. Work closely with professional staff in the use of economic and econometric data to develop and implement customer responsive programming. Provide support for scheduling coordination and load forecasting functions.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Working knowledge of regulatory agencies and compliance reporting for Western energy market participants.
  • Forecasting energy prices and basis spreads through regression analysis.
  • Understanding of the California Independent System Operator and electric power markets.
  • Microsoft Office Excel, VBA, SQL and data analytics tools
  • Understanding of California’s Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) model.
