This survey is being conducted by TRC Energy Services, as part of a California Energy Commission (CEC) funded research project – Leading in Los Angeles (LeLA). The project focuses on demonstrating an innovative, scalable and integrated approach to achieving deep energy savings in existing commercial buildings through coordinated retrofits across lighting, plug loads, envelope and HVAC. The LeLA project team is led by the New Buildings Institute (NBI) and includes TRC Energy Solutions, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (LBNL), The Energy Coalition, Delos and CEES-Advisors.
The set of technologies are called the Integrated Technologies for Energy-efficient Retrofits (INTER) solution set and are comprised of the following:
Lighting as a Service (LaaS): A lighting retrofit delivery model in which customers are charged on a subscription basis rather than via a one-time payment for lighting retrofit projects. LaaS offerings can range from basic lighting upgrades, to advanced sensors, controls, and network communications what maximize energy savings potential in buildings; and may also include third-party management of lighting systems-including maintenance, financial, technical, and/or operational assistance.
Advanced Lighting Control Systems (ALCS): These systems provide control and monitoring capabilities for connected luminaires, can adjust lighting levels, and maximize energy savings potential by dynamically balancing multiple data points (occupancy, daylighting, comfort, user preferences etc.)
Integrated Lighting and Plug Load Control Systems: A common platform that integrated designs for lighting and plug load controls in buildings using both central (time) and distributed sensor controls (occupancy, daylighting, etc.)
Automated Interior Window Shades: Interior window shades that automatically move and adjust according to changing conditions- e.g. time of the day, daylight levels, etc.
Automated Daylight Harvesting Interior Window Shades: Interior window shading systems that automatically adjust and maximize penetration of daylight deep into the building, control glare and help reduce lighting energy consumption.
The goal of the INTER Technologies Customer Survey is to understand the current design practices of interior window shades and lighting systems in the building industry and assess the current and future market penetration of the proposed INTER technologies from the perspective of customers. The responses of this survey will be used for research purposes only and all results will be anonymized. The Team will not reveal any personal information – Name, Company Name, etc. – for any respondent.
