Pedro Pizarro, CEO of Edison International said the importance of upgrading Southern California Edison’s transmission system to create a smarter, more efficient grid is critical for reducing GHG emissions. California’s ambitious RPS standard will inevitably reduce the amount of natural gas burned for electricity generation. Therefore, new gas-fired generation will be more focused on ramping and peak capabilities due to the intermittent nature of wind and solar generation. SCE’s battery-natural gas turbine hybrid is an example of the new types of generation technology being introduced to prepare for future grid.
