Opinion: PG&E is not a victim — Legislature must not bail out utility

“After devoting decades of my life to holding PG&E accountable for its many misdeeds, it is incredible to me that following the October wildfires PG&E has been able to portray itself as the victim, in need of a bailout from California. We must understand PG&E’s long history of malfeasance while our legislators consider the governor’s recent proposal, which would weaken California law, permit PG&E to shift the costs of its disasters, and allow PG&E to avoid scrutiny from its regulator, the state Public Utilities Commission.”
