Retrofit Chicago’s Commercial Buildings Initiative Receives Efficiency Impact Award

News

The Retrofit Chicago Commercial Buildings Initiative has won the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance’s 2014 Inspiring Efficiency Impact Award. The Commercial Buildings Initiative is one of three components of Retrofit Chicago, the City of Chicago’s cross-sector effort to improve energy performance across municipal, commercial, and residential buildings throughout the city. To quote the Initiative’s website:

In joining the program, Commercial Buildings Initiative participants commit to:
• Reduce energy use by at least 20% within five years of joining the program
• Track and share energy efficiency progress through ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager
• Serve as an ambassador to other buildings interested in saving energy

Through these efforts, Chicago’s leading buildings are reducing operating costs, increasing asset value, creating good local jobs, and avoiding greenhouse gas emissions.

Currently, Retrofit Chicago’s Commercial Buildings Initiative includes more than 50 building participants spanning more than 40 million square feet.
