A key part of San Jose’s 2007 “Green Vision” climate action plan is finding solutions in transportation – which makes up for 40% of Santa Clara County’s total carbon emissions. San Jose used the plan to set a goal to move its entire public fleet to 100% alternative fuels.
San Jose keeps the public up-to-date on their clean fleet programs and progress on the City’s website. To date, through incorporation of bio-diesel, compressed natural gas and electric vehicles, San Jose has moved 41% of its public fleet (more than 900 vehicles) to alternative fuel vehicles. San Jose has also worked to grow public transit use and encourage “green commuting” (fact sheet available here). San Jose’s Green Fleet Policy (2007) is available here.
