Santa Barbara County Implements New Home Energy Checklist to be Paired with Building Permits

News

A new Home Energy Checklist and Guidance Document (described under Measure BE 2 of the County’s Energy and Climate Action Plan) has been created by Santa Barbara County, which goes into effect on February 1, 2016. Applicants are required to complete the Home Energy Checklist for residential building permits for additions, alterations, and/or remodels (excluding repair and/or maintenance). This Checklist will provide homeowners the tools they need to inspect the various areas of their homes for potential energy upgrade opportunities. A number of local governments use energy efficiency checklist, scoring, or flags during permitting for new construction or substantial renovations as a way to connect homeowners to energy-saving and cost-saving opportunities.
