The California ISO (CAISO) expects to curtail up to 8,000MW this Spring due to the overabundance of hydro generation. By 2024 CAISO expects that they may need to curtail up to 13,000 MW but primarily due to renewable generation. This could potentially hinder California’s ability to meet the current Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) goal of 50% renewables by 2030 as well as the recent goal proposed to expand RPS goals to 100% by 2045.
