Priority Area: Community Resilience
Barrier: Energization

Challenge/Local/State

Description

Challenge

Rural and tribal lands face significant barriers to grid connectivity. Energization queues can stretch for years and utility processes create delays that leave residents without basic electricity. It can be impossible for under-resourced communities and organizations to navigate the process without dedicated technical assistance.

  • Illustrative Example – At the Los Coyotes Reservation some households have waited more than four years for initial connection to the SDG&E grid, leaving homes without electricity for extended periods and highlighting inequities in utility service delivery.

Region: San Diego, Statewide
